It can take a while to distinguish one cry from another. It’s easy to tell if your baby ‘s diaper needs changing, but what about all the other times?
- hungry
- wet or poopy
- cold or hot
- needing to burp or pass gas
- feeling lonely or scared
- overstimulated
- finding it strange & overwhelming to experience new body sensations
Your medical providers will have told you how much your baby should eat in a day, and if he/she’s gaining weight well you dont need to worry. Your baby does actually have behaviors that will gradually help you to tell when she’s hungry or full. If you are interested in learning more about infant cues please contact me here.
Here’s some of the ways parents have found to soothe their babies:
- holding
- rocking
- crooning
- swaddling
- going for a drive
- music
I would defiitely recommend you either reading or watching the video of “The Happiest Baby on the Block” by Dr. Harvey Karp.
